Encourage Engineers in Your Own Backyard

Jump-start some healthy (and safe!) youthful experimentation around the laws of science, math and even thermodynamics with this step-by-step guide. Detailed diagrams and photos show how to build tennis ball mortars, potato cannons and more. A great way to get kids excited about engineering, physics and chemistry. Strong emphasis on safety from an engineering professor who includes engaging facts and inventor profiles. We recommend that parents work with or closely supervise their children when operating Backyard Ballistics devices. 169 pages.

The devices in this book are not made out of common household recyclables. It does require a trip to the hardware store and a few bucks. However, it has kept my 15 year old busy this week

The book looks fascinating, but the projects were more complex than I anticipated, the quipment more involved, and the instructions more difficult. It looked very 'interesting' but my 13 year old son who likes rockets and building projects was turned off. I think it's for an older age group.
